The Nevada Department of Transportation and Department of Public Safety, along with numerous other safety partners across the state, developed the Nevada Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) in 2016. The safety plan was developed to save lives by addressing the frequency, rate and primary factors contributing to fatal and severe injury crashes in Nevada. The plan identifies six critical emphasis areas: including seatbelts, lane departures, impaired driving, pedestrians, motorcycles, and intersections, that represent the greatest opportunity to save lives and reduce the number of severe crashes and injuries. The plan also identifies critical safety strategies in the areas of enforcement, education and emergency service, in addition to engineering improvements. Using these strategies, the plan's goal is to reduce Nevada traffic fatalities and injuries in half of 2008 numbers by 2030.
