 Garnet Interchange Overview

Project Description

The Garnet Design-Build Project will provide safety, operational and capacity improvements to the Garnet Interchange (Interstate 15 and US 93 interchange) and US 93 to the north.  These highways carry an increasing level of freight traffic to and from Northern Nevada, and provide access to adjacent industrial and manufacturing enterprises, such as the Apex Industrial Park.  The proposed improvements include:

Reconstruct Garnet Interchange, built in 1963

  • Replace existing I-15 bridges, including widening for three lanes each way in the future
  • Change configuration to a modified diverging-diamond interchange (DDI)
  • Landscape and aesthetics plan commemorates Old Spanish Trail

Widen U.S. 93 for 5 miles from a two-lane highway to a four-lane divided highway

  • Designed for future widening to six lanes
  • Partial interchange at U.S. 93/Grand Valley Parkway
  • Designed for future traffic signals at U.S. 93/Apex Great Basin Way

Two-lane frontage road parallel to U.S. 93

  • Connects North Las Vegas Boulevard, Apex Great Basin Way and Grand Valley Parkway
  • Future extension to Apex Power Parkway

A design-build contract for these improvements has been awarded to Ames Construction for $57.9 million.  The project commenced on August 15, 2017, and substantial completion of construction is expected at the end of 2018.
