Statewide Planning and Metropolitan Planning

I -80, 2009 Corridor Study

The I-80 Corridor Study area encompasses five miles north and south of I-80 from the California state line to the West McCarran Boulevard (SR 651) Interchange, and I-80 east from the East McCarran Boulevard (SR650) Interchange in the City of Sparks to east of the Wadsworth-Pyramid (SR 427) Interchange.

The study process began in September 2007, with the gathering of stakeholders from government agencies and local interest groups.

This study is a snapshot in time, providing recommendations to improve corridor traffic conditions. Short- and long-range planning for a corridor such as I-80 is an ongoing process that should be continuously monitored.

Freight Transportation

Goods Movement Study

The Goods Movement Study report summarizes an initial attempt to examine Nevada’s freight transportation system, with an eye on how to best utilize Nevada’s freight strengths in the economic development and economic diversification process.

The needs of the non-tourism, non-gaming industries are in some ways very different from those of the services industries traditional to Nevada. While the tourism and services industries need certain types of infrastructure and services (passenger highways and passenger airports, restaurants and hotels), the other types of non-services businesses often need other types of transportation (freight transportation), other types of infrastructure (utilities), and other types of labor and markets.

Southern Nevada Study

Clark, Esmeralda, Lincoln and Nye Counties

The primary goal of the Southern Nevada Transportation Study is to inventory existing transportation and socio-economic trends, and to forecast these trends over the next 20 years.

The Southern Nevada Transportation Study dated October 6, 2003 is available online in pdf format. The document is divided into the following five sections and includes a table of contents.


US 50 East Corridor Study

As part of the Nevada Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) statewide transportation planning and programming, specific corridor and subarea studies are convened to meet challenging situations.

The rules and regulations set forth in Title 23, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 450, Planning
Assistance and Standards, Subpart B 450.212, Public Involvement, describe the authority for studies. The US 50 East Corridor Study was conducted in the spirit of these documents.

US 395 Land Use Analyses

US 395 Land Use Study

The US 395 Land Use Analyses represent individual TAZ's (Traffic Analysis Zones) located within 1/2 mile of the centerline of the US 395 corridor. Included in the analyses are population, housing units, number of employees and hotel rooms. Years included are 2000, 2012, 2020 and 2030.

US 395 is analyzed from Carson City to northern Washoe County. The Washoe County and Carson City sections are available. The Douglas County section will be analyzed as part of the US 395 southern Sierra corridor study.

Intercounty and Regional Transit Plan

The NDOT Multimodal Planning Division recently completed an Inter-County and Regional Transit Plan which studied the public transportation demand and needs in the northern Nevada region centered around the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center. Provided below are the links to the Plan’s final documents.
