About the Project
Much of I-15 has been studied and improved by NDOT resulting in the segment between Flamingo Road and Sahara Avenue as the only remaining piece to be upgraded. This section of roadway is adjacent to the resort corridor and between the recently completed projects that include Project NEON and I-15 projects between Tropicana Avenue and Saint Rose Parkway. The existing I-15 from Flamingo Road to Sahara Avenue does not have the capacity to accommodate future traffic demands of I-15 in this segment.
NDOT is planning to address this section of roadway by evaluating possible improvements and modifications to I-15. By performing a feasibility study to explore improvements that will maximize the operational efficiency of the I-15 mainline, as well as its interchanges with Sahara Avenue, Spring Mountain Road and Flamingo Road.
The existing roadway configuration bottlenecks the I-15 corridor to a reduced number of lanes through the study segment.
Existing interchange operations need to be enhanced.
Safety in the corridor needs to be improved.
Future traffic demands will exceed the existing roadway capacity.
Match the project segment of I-15 with upstream and downstream segments north of Sahara Avenue and south of Flamingo Road.
Identify right-of-way needs to provide the required capacity to meet future demand.

What is a feasibility study?
The feasibility study will compare the practicality of roadway improvements that are known to improve roadway operations (i.e. add lanes, reconfigure interchanges, optimize operations). The feasibility study will objectively evaluate improvements to determine their effectiveness, the impacts of resources and costs, and identify one or more alternatives to begin the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process.
What are the proposed improvements?
Currently, no improvements have been identified – that is the purpose of the feasibility study.
What are the traffic impacts?
Traffic impacts during construction are yet to be determined as construction of this project will not begin for at least five years.
What is the project cost and how is it being funded?
The total project cost and funding source are yet to be determined. The magnitude of costs determined during the study will help determine the necessary funding amounts and sources.
Who are the project stakeholders?
NDOT is delivering this project in partnership and collaboration with FHWA, RTC of Southern Nevada, Clark County, City of Las Vegas, Nevada Resort Association, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Resort Corridor Property Owners and the General Traveling Public.
When will the study be completed?
The study is expected to be completed by late Summer of 2020.
A public meeting will be held during the study process to provide the public information about the feasibility study and give the public an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions. The meeting date, time and location will be posted as soon as scheduled.
