NDOT Starts Final ATM Sign Testing, Activates Ramp Meters in Las Vegas

Post Date:12/06/2019 2:55 PM

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) this week began final testing of 42 Active Traffic Management (ATM) signs installed along north and southbound Interstate 15 between Russell Road and Washington Avenue as well as along U.S. Highway 95 between Valley View Boulevard and Interstate 15 in the Las Vegas valley.

Motorists, as a result, may notice intermittent test patterns across the signs over the next 60 days as officials undertake systemwide acceptance testing. Pending a glitch-free testing process, the ATM signs will become active in the early part of 2020.

The full-color LED signs will provide next-generation, real-time driver information about detours, crashes, speed limit changes, and lane restrictions, thereby improving safety and traffic flows by reducing differential travel speeds and secondary crashes for enhanced operational efficiency.

Meanwhile, the following freeway ramp meters will be activated starting next week at the following locations:

  • Martin Luther King Boulevard onramp to northbound U.S. Highway 95
  • Pinto Lane onramp to southbound Interstate 15
  • Charleston Boulevard onramps to north and southbound Interstate 15
  • Sahara Avenue onramp to northbound Interstate 15

Ramp meters decrease traffic congestion and improve driver safety by regulating the rate of automobiles entering mainline freeway traffic. For the latest state highway conditions, visit nvroads.com or call 511 before driving.
