I-80 Downtown Reno/Sparks Overnight Lane Closures for Concrete Median Barrier Repair

Post Date:06/06/2019 8:01 AM
The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin safety repairs June 5 to replace median concrete barrier rail on Interstate 80 in downtown Reno damaged after being struck by a semi-truck.
During the weekend of March 23, two separate commercial vehicle/semi-truck crashes damaged I-80 concrete median barrier rail; one section near the Virginia Street downtown Reno exit and the other east of Pyramid Way in Sparks. Barrier rail is built to deflect and redirect the weight of vehicles, helping to prevent wayward vehicles from entering the opposite direction of traffic.
Directly following the crashes, preliminary repairs were made to the barrier rail.
Drivers will see the following lane closures as new concrete is placed to fully replace the damaged barrier rail:
• Both directions of I-80 will be reduced to a single lane between Keystone Avenue and the Virginia Street downtown Reno exit 8p.m.-5a.m. nightly June 5 through June 7. Speed limits will be reduced to 55 mph.
• Roadway median closures and periodic overnight lane closures began June 3 on I-80 near Pyramid Way in Sparks as precast barrier rail was placed to protect the traveling public while crews remove and replace damaged sections of railing. Median closures and periodic overnight lane closures will continue on both directions of I-80 near Pyramid Way June 10 through June 18 as crews remove damaged rail, pour concrete and remove concrete forms.
Alternate routes are advised and minor travel delays are to be expected. The road work schedule is subject to change.
