“Pave-A-Palooza:” U.S. 95 Southbound Closed Thursday Night in Las Vegas

Post Date:06/04/2019 9:23 AM

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Nevada Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) “Pave-A-Palooza” continues this week with final paving and striping for Project Neon – a nearly $1 billion 4-mile-long widening of Interstate 15 from the U.S. 95 interchange to Sahara Avenue, which broke ground in 2016. Motorists can expect the following closures:

June 6-7 (Thursday Night-Friday Morning)

  • U.S. Highway 95 southbound will be closed between Martin Luther King and Casino Center boulevards from 8 p.m., June 6, until 5 a.m., June 7.
  • The Interstate 15 north and southbound ramps to U.S. Highway 95 southbound will be closed from 7 p.m., June 6, until 5 a.m., June 7.
  • The High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Flyover, U.S. Highway 95 southbound to Interstate 15 southbound ramp will be closed from 7 p.m., June 6, until 5 a.m., June 7.
  • The Martin Luther King Boulevard onramp to U.S. Highway 95 southbound will be closed from 7 p.m., June 6, until 5 a.m., June 7.

Crews are applying a special crumb rubber asphalt mix, incorporating shredded tires for a smoother, quieter ride. Crumb rubber lasts twice as long as traditional asphalt pavement while also creating a better friction surface with less wet weather splashing. And it also recycles used tires that otherwise would end-up in a landfill. Pave-A-Palooza will use roughly 60,000 discarded tires.

Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. is the design-build general contractor, with Atkins North America as lead designer. Project Neon is 96 percent finished and scheduled for substantial completion by mid-July.

Motorists should use caution while travelling through the work zone, heed construction signage, and take alternate detour routes, if possible. Check the Project Neon website ( or Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter pages (@NDOTProjectNeon) for up to date information. There is also a free smart phone app available, plus a hotline available in both English and Spanish at: 702-293-NEON (6366). NDOT works with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but unscheduled construction changes, closures and restrictions are possible due to weather or other factors. For the latest state highway conditions, visit or call 511 before driving.
