Single Lane Closures on Keystone Ave. Underneath I-80
Minor single lane closures and pedestrian travel shifts will take place on Keystone Avenue near Interstate 80 through mid-February as NDOT installs enhanced pedestrian sidewalk ramps
CARSON CITY, Nev. – Minor single lane closures and pedestrian travel shifts will take place on Keystone Avenue near Interstate 80 through mid-February as the Nevada Department of Transportation installs enhanced pedestrian sidewalk ramps for improved accessibility.
Crews will work on one side of Keystone Avenue at a time while pedestrian traffic is detoured to the other side. Pedestrians will be able to use marked signalized crosswalks at West 7th and West 5th streets to cross to the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street while traveling underneath I-80.
Intermittent single lane closures will also take place weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Only one lane will be closed at a time, and no lane closures will be in place during the evening rush hour.
The improvements are part of NDOT’s continuing project to repair and enhance Interstate 80 from Keystone Avenue to the Nevada-California state line. When complete at the end of 2019, the interstate improvements by contractor Q&D Construction will resurface both directions of I-80 between Keystone Avenue in Reno and the Nevada-California border. Approximately four inches of the roadway surface will be removed and repaved, with milled asphalt reused and reincorporated into the new asphalt surface. Additional flashing warning signals and detection systems will be added to I-80 ramps in the area as a highly-visible and additional indication to help stop drivers from entering the wrong way, ultimately enhancing freeway safety. Merge lanes will also be lengthened at certain exits, roadside shoulders will be widened and roadside barrier rail and drainage and water treatment improvements made.
