Interstate 80 Lane Reductions Scheduled for Cleaning of Carlin Tunnels

Post Date:04/10/2018 3:43 PM

Lanes on Interstate 80 in the Carlin area will be reduced Monday, April 16 through Thursday, April 19 for annual cleaning of the Carlin Tunnels, the Nevada Department of Transportation has announced.

Cleaning of the westbound tunnel is scheduled for Monday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 17 between 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The westbound tunnel will be closed and westbound traffic detoured through Carlin Canyon. The eastbound tunnel will remain open but restricted to one lane. On Wednesday, April 18 and Thursday, April 19 from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., cleaning of the eastbound tunnel will result in westbound traffic being detoured again through Carlin Canyon and eastbound traffic being routed to the westbound tunnel.

For traveler safety, flaggers, signs and barrier rail will help detour traffic around the work zone. Motorists are asked to obey traffic controls and drive at posted speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions.

Nevada road construction information is available at or by dialing (775) 888-7000.

   Always buckle up.

Watch for and follow all warning, closure and construction detour signs.

   Pay attention and minimize distractions.

Always slow to posted work zone speed limits.

   Keep consistent with traffic flow.

Keep a safe distance from cars ahead, traffic barriers, construction equipment and workers.

Remain calm. Remember that work zones are not there to inconvenience you- they are necessary to improve the roadway.
