Single Lane Closures on N. Virginia Street for NDOT Pedestrian Safety Improvements
CARSON CITY, Nev. – Single lane closures will begin Jan. 26 on North Virginia Street as the Nevada Department of Transportation installs a flashing pedestrian crossing beacon.
Single lane closures will take place on both directions of North Virginia Street directly north of the Bonanza Casino between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays Friday, Jan. 26 through Wednesday, Jan. 31. At least one lane in each direction will remain open throughout construction. The road work is subject to change based on weather.
NDOT will install an electronic flashing pedestrian crossing beacon on North Virginia Street at Hoge Road for enhanced visibility and safety of crossing pedestrians.
Last year, NDOT installed sidewalks and other pedestrian enhancements on the same area of North Virginia Street, as well as installed similar pedestrian crossing beacons nearby. Many of the improvements are part of the approximately $10 million in state highway funds NDOT dedicates to pedestrian safety improvements every year. Additionally, NDOT dedicates approximately $21 million annually in federal highway safety funds to roadway safety projects and programs.
