Craig Road Gets $913K in Pedestrian, Safety Upgrades in North Las Vegas
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) recently awarded a $912,471 contract to MC4 Construction LLC to make pedestrian and safety upgrades along a 4.3-mile section of Craig Road (State Route 573) in North Las Vegas. The project will improve sections of roadway between Decatur Boulevard and North Fifth Street, adding new sections of sidewalk, creating more handicap ramps, and upgrading lighting for better visibility. Additionally, there will be new median islands with bollards at Scott Robinson Boulevard and Ferrell Street. Other enhancements call for revamped crosswalk technology and six miles of bus bike lanes.
There were 1,089 total crashes between 2009 and 2014, including 9 fatalities and 769 injuries. This section of Craig Road averages 38,000 vehicles daily, with a one percent annual traffic growth rate. Construction on the improvements will begin early next year with anticipated completion in summer 2018.
Motorists should use caution while travelling through the work zone, heed construction signage, and take alternate detour routes, if possible. NDOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but unscheduled construction changes, closures and restrictions are possible due to weather or other factors.
