State Route 233 Reopened Between Montello and NV-Utah State Line
The Nevada Department of Transportation has reopened State Route 233 between Montello and the Nevada-Utah state line following major flood damage.
State Route 233 was severely damaged during early February flooding. NDOT repaired and reopened the section of State Route 233 between Interstate 80 and Montello on March 9, but the northeast section of highway between Montello and the state line remained closed to through traffic. Numerous areas of highway were washed away by heavy flood waters, with as much as 20-foot deep caverns carved through the road. Contractor Ames Construction used approximately 30,000 cubic yards of material to fill the erosion, installed three 10-foot diameter overflow drainage culverts and then repaved the roadway. With the full length of State Route 233 now reopened to through traffic, NDOT reminds motorists of the potential of periodic shoulder and lane closures for minor finishing construction.
