Gov. Kenny Guinn announced today the names of 14 members who will serve on a Blue Ribbon Task Force to study future highway projects in Nevada.
"The Nevada Department of Transportation is under way with its largest highway construction program ever," Gov. Guinn said. "However, beginning in 2008 there are many more projects that will be necessary to keep pace with the tremendous growth of the state. The evaluations and recommendations of the task force will help establish the foundation for addressing Nevada's future transportation needs."
The task force will:
- Review the need for future NDOT projects, including impacts to congestion relief, state highway system serviceability, safety, and the quality of life and economy of Nevada.
- Review project costs and revenue projections.
- Evaluate funding options.
The members are:
- Daryl Capurro, managing director, Nevada Motor Transport Association.
- Timothy Cashman, president, Las Vegas Harley-Davidson, immediate past chairman, Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
- John Ellison, Elko County Commissioner.
- LeRoy Goodman, chairman, Lyon County Board of Commissioners.
- Kathryn Landreth, state director, The Nature Conservancy.
- Andrew List, executive director, Nevada Association of Counties.
- John Madole, executive director, Nevada Chapter Associated General Contractors.
- John Mayer, Sparks city councilman and chairman, Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission.
- Phillip Peckman, president/CEO, The Greenspun Corp., and executive member of the Nevada Development Authority.
- Irene Porter, executive director, Southern Nevada Home Builders Association.
- Rossi Ralenkotter, president/CEO, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
- Mark Russell, vice president/general counsel, MGM-Mirage.
- Carole Vilardo, president, Nevada Taxpayers Association.
- Bruce Woodbury, Clark County Commissioner and chairman of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.
