Roadway Drainage Project Begins in Lake Tahoe
A State Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade) drainage improvement project near South Lake Tahoe will begin in the next week, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced.
The project will improve drainage and erosion control on approximately three miles of Kingsbury Grade between U.S. 50 and Daggett Summit. New sediment basins and drain inlets will be installed to reduce roadway sediment reaching Lake Tahoe. As part of ongoing multi-agency efforts to enhance, maintain and protect Lake Tahoe, NDOT has implemented millions in similar Tahoe-area road improvements since 1995.
The nearly $7 million in enhancements, made by contractor El Camino Construction, will take place May through October through 2011. The majority of work will occur during daytime hours, with single lane closures. Motorists are advised to drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions. Updated Nevada construction information and road reports are available by dialing 511. NDOT also offers safe work zone driving tips at www.nevadadot.com/safety.
