NDOT Repaving US 93 in Northeast Nevada with Economic Recovery Funds
A repaving project on U.S. 93 north of Wells has begun, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced.
The project will resurface approximately 17.3 miles of U.S. 93 between from 11.7 miles south to 5.6 miles north of Contact using cold in-place recycling. The technique reuses the existing pavement surface and smoothes it back down as improved roadway. Using existing road material not only saves the cost of new material, but also minimizes waste. The project’s other improvements include new guardrail, as well as improvements on a bridge at Salmon Falls for enhanced safety.
The project is scheduled to complete in the fall. The $9.5 million in improvements, made by contractor Frehner Construction Company, Inc., is funded by federal economic recovery stimulus funds. NDOT has already bid out over one-third of the 15 designated state transportation projects to be funded by federal recovery funds.
Intermittent traffic controls and lane closures will commence in mid-July and remain in effect in both directions through construction to safely guide motorists. Motorists are advised to drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions. Updated Nevada road conditions and construction information are available by dialing 511. NDOT also offers safe work zone driving tips on-line at www.nevadadot.com/safety.
