NDOT Completes SR 28 Project One Week Early
A Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) project to repave State Route 28 from U.S. 50 to East Lakeshore Boulevard at Lake Tahoe has completed one week early.
Originally scheduled to complete July 2, the project ended ahead-of-schedule on June 25.
The eight-week, $5 million project completely resurfaced over 11 miles of roadway. Using full road closures and single lane closures, road crews worked 24 hours a day, removing roadway cracking and rutting and repaving to smooth the road surface.
NDOT used three weeks of mid-week road closures as the best option to increase safety and reduce impact to road users.
“If no road closures had been used, the travel delays would have potentially lasted through October,” NDOT Resident Engineer John Angel explained. “Without the need to switch traffic and construction barriers, we were able to quickly finish the project by grinding at night and paving during the day.”
“We know that road construction can create inconveniences,” NDOT Director Susan Martinovich explained. “NDOT would like to thank all of the community members and organizations whose understanding allowed us to improve this important road.”
Project contractor Granite Construction has already received compliments from motorists citing the smoothness of the new road.
