NDOT Social Networking Sites Provide Road Information
Nevada road and driving information can be found on the Nevada Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) new Twitter, FaceBook and YouTube social networking Web pages.
NDOT’s statewide Twitter Web page provides followers with road project updates and traffic and safety facts at www.twitter.com/nevadadot. Southern Nevada state road construction updates are available at www.twitter.com/ndotdistrict1. Users can easily sign up to receive all NDOT Twitter alerts through computer, cell phone or PDA.
Twitter is a free Web site that allows users to sign up to send or receive short messages and updates from other Twitter users of their choice. CNBC reports that Twitter users have grown from 1.6 million to 32 million in the past year.
NDOT’s FaceBook page is an opportunity to view updates and interface with the Department. FaceBook users simply search “Nevada DOT” to reach the NDOT page. Meanwhile, the NDOT YouTube page located at www.youtube.com/nevadadot offers driving safety and road project videos and information.
FaceBook reports over 200 million active users who share updates, photos, videos and other communications with friends and other site users, while YouTube allows users to post and view videos and other information.
“It is about connecting and sharing information in an interactive way,” NDOT Director Susan Martinovich said of the social networking sites. “Through these sites, we are able to provide a lot of good information for everyone who uses Nevada roads. For example, many of our safety messages are aimed at reducing the approximately 300 traffic deaths each year in Nevada.”
Over and above the social networking sites, NDOT continues to provide updated Nevada road construction, accident and weather reports at www.nvroads.com or by dialing 511 or 1-877-NV-ROADS.
