NDOT Holds Public Information Meeting on Elko-Area Roundabout
A Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) March 3, 2009 public meeting and new roundabout Web site will provide detailed information on a new traffic roundabout to be installed on State Route 227 (Lamoille Highway).
The roundabout is scheduled to be constructed at Lamoille Highway and Spring Creek Parkway next year. A one-way circular intersection in which traffic flows around a center island without stop signs or signals, the roundabout was developed to enhance safety. Because traffic enters and exits through right turns only, the occurrence of severe crashes in roundabouts is substantially less than in many four-way intersections. Lower speeds, increased traffic capacity and decreased delays, congestion, fuel consumption and air pollution are other roundabout benefits found in many national roundabout studies.

The Public Information Meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 in the Spring Creek Elementary multi-purpose room at 7 Licht Parkway, with an informational presentation to be made beginning at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend the open-format meeting at any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to discuss the project and provide comments.
