EXPRESS LANES

WHAT ARE THE I-15 EXPRESS LANES?

Express Lanes

The I-15 express lanes are designated lanes on I-15 that run alongside the Las Vegas Strip from Sahara Avenue to Silverado Ranch Boulevard. The express lanes are separated from general purpose lanes by double solid white lines. Express lanes are the same as regular lanes, except that drivers can only enter and exit the express lanes at designated areas. Because they are separated from traffic using the entrance and exit ramps onto the Strip, the express lanes reduce congestion and safety concerns created by vehicles exiting or entering onto the resort corridor.

BENEFITS OF THE EXPRESS LANES

The express lanes help improve mobility, safety and travel time by offering separate, dedicated lanes for those traveling I-15 past the Las Vegas Strip.

Drivers traveling on I-15 through the Las Vegas Strip area can choose the express lanes for a more efficient, express drive. Because the express lanes are separated from traffic merging onto and off the Las Vegas Strip, congestion and potential crashes caused by merging are reduced in the express lanes.

HOW DO I DRIVE THE EXPRESS LANES?

Enter the express lanes traveling I-15 northbound near Silverado Ranch Boulevard or traveling I-15 southbound near Sahara Avenue. Once inside the double white express lane markings, you cannot enter or exit the express lanes other than at designated areas marked by dotted white lines. You can, though, move from lane to lane within the express lanes.

Remember that you will not be able to exit onto Tropicana Avenue, Flamingo Road or Spring Mountain Road from the express lanes.

Speed limits are the same in the express lanes as general purpose lanes. Always travel safely and follow all speed limits and traffic laws while in the express lanes.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I UNINTENTIONALLY ENTER THE EXPRESS LANES?

Entrances into the express lanes are well marked. If you unintentionally enter the express lanes, you must stay in the express lanes until you see a dotted double white line indicating that you can legally cross over into the general purpose lanes.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY VEHICLE BREAKS DOWN IN THE EXPRESS LANES?

The best option if you have vehicle trouble is to pull to the left shoulder (center median), which is large enough to accommodate a vehicle in most areas.  If you are absolutely unable to pull to the left shoulder in an emergency, your safety always comes first and you may find that you need to cross over the double solid white lines to access the right shoulder.

Dial *NHP for emergency assistance.

WHAT ARE THE FINES FOR THE CROSSING THE DOUBLE SOLID WHITE EXPRESS LANE MARKINGS?

It is illegal to cross the double solid white express lane lines. The minimum fine for illegally crossing the double solid white lines is $190.

WHICH VEHICLES CAN USE THE EXPRESS LANES?

All vehicles legally allowed to travel I-15 through Las Vegas can use the express lanes. This includes trucks, motorcycles, RVs and other legal vehicles.

DO I NEED A CERTAIN NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN MY CAR TO USE THE EXPRESS LANES?

You do not need to have a certain number of occupants in your vehicle to use the express lanes. Drivers can use the express lanes as the single vehicle occupant. Note: this is different than the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on U.S. 95 through Las Vegas, which do require a certain number of vehicle occupants during specific times of day.
