U.S. 95 Northwest Corridor Improvements Project

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), Clark County and the City of Las Vegas is improving U.S. 95 from Washington Avenue to Kyle Canyon Road in northwestern Las Vegas.

The U.S. 95 Northwest Corridor Improvements Project will add lanes on U.S. 95, construct Horse Drive and Kyle Canyon Road interchanges and a system-to-system interchange between U.S. 95 and CC 215. The project will also add auxiliary lanes, as well as ramp metering, and landscape and aesthetic improvements.

The project has been divided into five phases for construction, consistent with the timing and anticipated need for improvements:

PHASE 1 – Washington Avenue to Ann Road: Construction began in 2010 and is anticipated to be completed in late 2012.  This NDOT/City of Las Vegas partnership project consists of the following:  

• Widening of U.S. 95 from three general purpose lanes and one HOV lane in each direction to add auxiliary lanes in each direction from Washington Avenue to Ann Road
• Widening the Gowan Road bridge
• Improving the Cheyenne Avenue interchange by constructing a loop ramp to accommodate heavy westbound Cheyenne Avenue to southbound U.S. 95 traffic
• Improving the Rancho/Ann Road interchange by constructing two new structures (one in each direction) to braid the northbound exit ramp and the southbound entrance ramp
• Improving the Durango Drive interchange by constructing a loop ramp to accommodate heavy westbound Durango Drive to southbound U.S. 95 traffic
• Improving the southbound off ramp at Lake Mead Boulevard by adding a signal on Rock Springs Drive
• Constructing landscape and aesthetic improvements, as well as sound walls in noise-sensitive areas

PHASE 2 – Ann Road to Kyle Canyon Road: This project is currently in the final design phase, and will be substantially complete by 2013.  This phase is anticipated to be constructed in two separate construction projects, Phase 2A and 2B.  Construction will begin when funding becomes available.  This NDOT/City of Las Vegas partnership project consists of the following:

• Widening U.S. 95 to three general purpose lanes and one HOV lane and auxiliary lanes in each direction from Ann Road to Durango Drive
• Widening U.S. 95 from two general purpose lanes in each direction to three general purpose lanes and auxiliary lanes in each direction from Durango Drive to Kyle Canyon Road
• Constructing landscape and aesthetic improvements, as well as sound walls in noise-sensitive areas

PHASE 3 – U.S. 95/CC 215 Northern Beltway interchange: This project is currently in the final design phase and construction will begin when funding becomes available.  This NDOT/Clark County/City of Las Vegas partnership will consist of the following:

• Construct new ramps to complete a system-to-system interchange configuration at the U.S. 95/CC 215 Northern Beltway interchange
• Construct a service interchange at John Herbert Blvd.
• Construct the eastbound CC 215
• Landscape and aesthetic improvements

  

PHASE 4 - U.S. 95 at Horse Drive: Construction was completed in June 2011.  This NDOT/City of Las Vegas partnership project consisted of the following:

• Construct a new service interchange
• Landscape and aesthetic improvements

• Construct a new service interchange
• Landscape and aesthetic improvements

PROJECT TIMELINE This multi-phase project will be constructed over a series of years, 
with project phases currently planned for construction as indicated above.

Project timeline is subject to change pending available funding and traffic congestion demands.
