Your ability to get where you need to go on Interstate 80 is important. NDOT provides the following information to help you during construction of the Carlin Tunnels Project.

Construction Updates

As construction ends for the season on November 27, traffic traveling westbound on I-80 will no longer be detoured to the adjacent old highway (U.S. 40). All traffic will shift to travel through the tunnels until construction begins again in spring 2014.

General Project Detour Information

When construction is in effect, detours will be set up to provide the quickest and safest travel through the project.

Signage and traffic control devices will easily direct motorists through the construction area.

The detour is expected to add less than five minutes of travel time for each trip through the construction zone.

Posted speed limits will be reduced from 75 miles per hour to 55 miles per hour, or less as needed, for traveler safety through the project area.

Construction Bicycle Access

During construction, bicycle traffic will be escorted through the project site. The traffic control supervisor will post signage on each end of the project to help cyclists navigate through the construction area safely. Depending on construction work being conducted at the time, the contractor may also shuttle bicyclers through the project in vehicles.
